Vaughan Chef wins gold at culinary world cup

A Sri Lankan Canadian chef from Vaughan Ontario won medals at the recent 2014 Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg.

Mihidu Kulasuriya Sipriyan Thushara Fernando who is currently employed at the Hilton Garden Inn Toronto, Vaughan and his son Solanch Fernando were members of the Golden Horse Shoe Culinary Team Canada.

Fernando’s career began nearly three decades ago at the Dolphin Beach Hotel in Negombo Sri Lanka. He won medals several cooking competitions in the island. He then worked in the Middle East where he won medals in several cooking completions in the region.

The year 2006 marked a fresh chapter in his career when he moved to Canada. Six years later he represented Canada at the 2012 Berlin Olympic Culinary competition where he won Silver and Bronze medals.
