Rev Dr. Sumana Siri’s 50 years monkhood celebration

Rev Dr. Sumana Siri will celebrate 50 years as a monk at a special ceremony in Brampton Ontario on Sunday. The event will take place at Chris Gibson Community Center  and a program which includes music and dance will run from 7-10pm.
Rev Dr. Sumana Siri was born in Malacca to Singaporean parents of Sri Lankan origin, he was raised and educated in Singapore. His father M.A. Jinadasa was a goldsmith and his mother, Madam Gnanawathie, a teacher, according to the Malaysian Star.
Following early studies of Buddhism, he decided to become a monk at the age of 11.
Sunday’s celebration in Brampton will include choir music by Sunil Jaysri, Monsastic blessings from Theraveda and Mahayana traditions.

Ven Pangasara Thera will give a speech on Rev. Dr. Sumana Siri’s international contributions to religious, social and academic arena.
The celebration is jointly hosted by Brampton Buddhist Mission Center and Academy of Wisdom and Enlightenment.
