Shuddh Desi Romance was a huge hit and audiences discovered the charm of Vaani Kapoor on the silver screen at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) premiere last September, says the festival’s artistic director Cameron Bailey.
Vaani Kapoor recently won the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) award for Best Debut Actress for her role in the film. TIFF is widely known as the launch point for many of the world’s top films each year, many go on to win big Hollywood awards.

Over the years TIFF has welcomed many acclaimed Indian and South Asian films.
“Shuddh Desi Romance was a huge hit with our audience at its Gala premiere last year. We loved its star cast, and for the first time we discovered the charm of Vaani Kapoor,” Bailey told Lankareporter.
“From Lagaan to Ship of Theseus, we’ve been happy to launch so many top films from India over the years. It’s a particular pleasure when we can also launch a new star,” he added.
