Entrepreneur and successful business woman Sumi Shan announced her intent to seek the nomination as Ontario Liberal candidate in Scarborough—Rouge Park.
Sumi migrated to Canada with her family in the 1980s from Sri Lanka and on seeing their example has dedicated her life to public service, a news release issued by the party today said.
A serial entrepreneur, Sumi is currently a Partner and Managing Director at a cleantech startup and has founded a successful consulting firm focusing on the tech sector – helping startups grow and succeed. Previously, she worked with the Ontario Government, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and with Microsoft Canada.
“As an Ontarian, a Tamil Canadian and as a Liberal, I understand how important it is for families to have the support they need when they need it,” Sumi said. “I know that Kathleen Wynne and the Ontario Liberals are making a real and meaningful impact on people’s lives in this province. I want to ensure that families in Scarborough can continue to benefit from a plan that is delivering more child care spaces, better public transit and free prescription drugs for kids and seniors.”
