Outgoing High Commissioner honours previous envoys to Ottawa

Sri Lanka’s outgoing High Commissioner to Canada Chitranganee Wagiswara unveiled a commemorative plaque of previous heads of mission.
The special plaque contains the names of 20 former High Commissioners who served as Sri Lanka’s top envoy to Canada since the resident mission opened in Ottawa in 1956.
In March 1958, Sri Lanka’s first High Commissioner to Canada Sir Velupillai Coomaraswamy and Lady Coomaraswamy arrived in the country.
Wagiswara arrived in Canada in December 2009.

“My Mission in Canada has been to maintain and build on the traditionally close links that exists between Canada and Sri Lanka. On reflection it has been a professionally interesting experience,” Wagiswara said in her outgoing message.
“I leave with satisfaction, taking note on the one hand the challenges, and on the other the positive developments in our multi-faceted bilateral relationship.”

Sri Lanka’s outgoing High Commissioner to Canada Chitranganee Wagiswara unveiled a commemorative plaque of previous heads of mission to Ottawa.

The special plaque contains the names of 20 former High Commissioners who served as Sri Lanka’s top envoy to Canada since the resident mission opened in Ottawa in 1956.
