In a historic occasion Vesak Day will be official recognized by Ottawa on May 4 at City Hall.
Organizers have invited the public to attend the festivities at Jean Pigott Hall Place, City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
“This is a unique opportunity for Ottawa to participate in the multi-cultural celebrations of Asian Heritage and mark Vesak Day which commemorates the Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and passing,” organizers announced.
Sri Lankan Hevisi drummers will accompany the Sanga procession. In addition many performances representing Buddhist countries will be showcased. The Thai Dance Troupe will pay homage to Lord Buddha, the Chinese Senior Support Centre of Kanata will perform a dance, and a Vietnamese Buddhist youth group will perform a Lion Dance.
