New Miss Teen Canada Abissheka has Lankan roots

Abissheka Lloydson was crowned Miss Teen Canada 2013/14.

Born to Sri Lankan parents, visited mother’s school in Vavuniya last year

Abissheka Lloydson was crowned Miss Teen Canada Globe 2013/14 recently in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The 17-year-old honour student of Bro. Andre Catholic High School in Markham boasts many talents ranging from modeling, Carnatic singing to sports.

From the tender age of three she had vocal training from Smt. Kulanayaki Vivekanthan and violin from Smt. Thana Devi Midradeva. Abissheka is also a swimming coach who enjoys playing basketball, badminton and volleyball.

The teen also models for various South Asian shows in Canada, and led to her participation in Miss South Asia 2013 and Beauties of Asia 2013 and came in as a runner up and recently she was crowned Miss Teen Canada Globe 2013/2014. Born in Canada to Sri Lankan parents, she is proud of her ethnic roots and is active in the community in Toronto.

Abissheka had the ideal opportunity to connect with her homeland last year when she visited her mother’s school in Vavuniya.

She was able to interact with schoolchildren at Katkulam Thamil Kalavan Padasalai, teaching them Science, Math, English and basic Computer skills.

“I leaned different ways to teach children, and how to communicate with kids. I went in the summer of 2012 and yes of course, if I ever get the chance to go back I will,” she said.
