Monsoon which had a premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last September won the first ever People’s Choice award at Canada’s Top Ten Festival.
“For the first time in Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival history, audiences were invited to vote for their favourite feature film,” TIFF said in a statement.
Gunnarsson’s Monsoon followed the mass weather system as it moved across India. It covered regions from South India to major cities including Kolkata. It includes first hand experiences from Indians as the weather system brings life and chaos.
“I’m thrilled. Monsoon is probably the most personal film I’ve made, and it turns out to be a crowd-pleaser too,” said Gunnarsson. “This can only help our February 27 release.”
Monsoon opens February 27 at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
