The City of Brampton hosted an exciting Canada Day celebration at Chinguacousy Park, featuring a mix of family-friendly activities, delicious food, and vibrant performances, culminating in a headline performance by internationally renowned artist M.I.A.

The event, presented by Malar Group and hosted by Jesse Jones, proved to be a day of entertainment and community spirit. Residents enjoyed a variety of large inflatable rides, games, and slides, making it an ideal day out for families. Alongside the fun activities, attendees explored a range of food options and retail vendors, while also enjoying performances from local groups.

The main stage showcased a diverse lineup of artists, starting with performances by In Tempo, the dynamic DJ duo MixSignals, Brampton artist Ajhani Azure, and Punjabi hip-hop artist Ikky. The highlight of the evening was the headlining act by M.I.A., the Sri Lankan rapper known for her hit “Paper Planes.”

M.I.A. consistently set the pace for culture with her unique blend of art, activism, and fashion. Her breakthrough album “Kala” in 2007 was a game-changer, earning critical acclaim and featuring the quadruple-platinum anthem “Paper Planes.” The song’s impact was further solidified when it appeared in the Oscar-winning film “Slumdog Millionaire” and was sampled by hip-hop heavyweights T.I., JAY-Z, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne for their Grammy-winning track “Swagga Like Us.”
