Malay Islamic World Secretariat opens in Canada

The Malay Islamic World Secretariat (Duniya Melayu Duniya Islam) officially launched its 19th member nation recently at the Sayeda Khadija Centre in Mississauga.  It was a celebration of Malay Islamic roots in Canada with the arrival of the President of DMDI Senator Tan Sri Haji Mohd Ali Bin Mohd Rustam and his accompanying delegates from Malacca, Malaysia to inaugurate the official launch.  The event was well attended by officials and dignitaries from Malay nations.

The High Commissioner for Malaysia, Dato’ Aminahtun Karim Shaharudin, Colonel (Retired) Pg Hj Kamal Bashah Pg Hj Ahmad, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam, and Mr. U.L.M. Jauhar, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Toronto, and Mr. Ahmad Shanizam Abdul Ghani, Consul / Trade Commissioner of Malaysia in Toronto.

The formation of this Secretariat brought together Malays from 7 countries residing in Toronto, namely:  Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines.  DMDI’s vision is to generate enthusiasm among Malay-Muslims around the world by uniting one another and helping to excel in key areas such as Economics, Socio-Cultural, Tourism, Religion, Science and Technology, as well as Youth and Education.
