Sri Lankans attending the ‘Holy Mass’ celebrated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Vianney Fernando, Bishop of Kandy, Sri Lanka, at the Martyr’s Shrine, Midland on Sunday July 28, 2013.
The massive celebrations were organized by the Canada Sri Lanka Catholic Association of Ontario with its President Barrister Solicitor Julian Devika Anthony playing a major role.
From the early hours of the morning bus loads of folks from all parts of Canada arrived in Midland to attend the celebrations where the Mass was celebrated in a colourful open air stage.
The day’s program commenced with several former students of leading Sri Lankan Catholic schools marching with their flags, followed by a beautiful display of dances which made the celebrations a very colourful. The Bishop of Kandy Rt. Rev. Fernando celebrated ‘Holy Mass’ in Sinhala, Tamil and English and in his lengthy sermon he stressed ‘Peace and Harmony’ was the top priority for Sri Lanka which has gone through a very difficult period.
