A special South Indian edition of the International Indian Film Academy awards (IIFA) will be launched soon, a source close to IIFA told The Sri Lanka Reporter exclusively today.

The actual date and venue had yet to be confirmed but the wheels were in motion to bring the South Indian film fraternity together for the special edition awards show.

In Singapore,  2012 IIFA kicked off with a celebration of 100 years of Indian cinema with acting stalwarts Kamal Hassan and Rishi Kapoor in attendance.

Hassan said IIFA had become more inclusive of South Indian cinema, adding that he was a 13 year-old child of 100 year-old cinema. Meanwhile Rishi Kapoor was proud to claim his family`s long-running history in Indian cinema, which continues with his son Ranbir and two nieces. “Out of 100 years of cinema, my family has been serving for 80 years,“  he said at the Stamford Swisshotel in Singapore.
