Tributes have poured in after the sudden passing of Ackiel Thunku Ousmand. Sri Lanka Consul General Thushara Rodrigo stated that Mr. Ousmand was an “iconic member of the Sri Lankan Canadian community.”
“He made unforgettable commitments to strengthen the diversity of our community and demonstrated unwavering humanity,” the Consul General conveyed in a message to Mr. Ousmand’s wife, Roshan.
“My father was the eighth of nine children. He was renowned for his intelligence, independence, and dedication to service, whether to the public, his community, or his family. He served as a civil servant in government agencies across Saudi Arabia, the USA/Sri Lanka, and Canada.
Additionally, he assumed several leadership roles voluntarily within both the Sri Lankan Malay and other Sri Lankan community organizations in both Sri Lanka and Canada,” said his daughter Azma in a tribute posted on Instagram.
