Canadian Sri Lankans contributions an example of strength in diversity: Chrystia Freeland

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chrystia Freeland and Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vasantha Senanayake meet on the sidelines of ASEAN.

“Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland and Sri Lankan State Minister Vasantha Senanayake met on the margins of ASEAN. They discussed the strong people-to-people ties between Canada and Sri Lanka, Canadian support for peace and reconciliation efforts in Sri Lanka, strength in diversity using the contribution of Canadians of Sri Lankan descent as an example, and prospects for deepening investments/trade and development cooperation between the two countries,” Brianne Maxwell, Spokesperson for Global Affairs Canada.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chrystia Freeland and Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vasantha Senanayake, met and discussed the Sri Lankan government’s peace and reconciliation efforts after a 26-year civil war ending in 2009. Canada is committed to supporting justice and the protection of human rights for all,” he added.
