Book launch for “An anthology Sri Lankan Poetry Mirrored Images” edited by Rajiva Wijesinha at Toronto Don Valley Hotel

Sri Lanka Consul Karunaratna Paranavitana.
Mirrored Images is fantastic book of translations Sinhala and Tamil poetry edited by Rajiva Wijesinha. The anthology of poetry brings to you representative works of some of Sri Lanka’s most respected poets. Written mostly after independence, the collection maps the trends and developments in the growth of poetry from the island nation.
Drawn from Sinhala, Tamil and English, this anthology holds a mirror today’s Sri Lanka, casting kaleidoscopic images of many hues. Poems that reflect a patchwork quilt of identities, human emotions and struggles. Lines that chart the eventful journey of a country in transition.
Rajiva Wijesinghe, until recently Senior Professor of Languages at the Sabragamuwa University in Sri Lanka, is currently a Member of Parliament of Sri Lanka.
He read Classics and did his doctorate in English at Oxford University. His writings include works of fiction, political history and philosophy. Recent publications include The Limits of Love (the last work of a trilogy of novels on conflict in Sri Lanka), Foundations of Modern Society, Political Principles and their Practice in Sri Lanka, liberal Perspective for South Asia, and Declining Sri Lanka, which covers the recent political history of the country.
His edited works include A Selection of Modern Sri Lankan Poetry in English and A selection of Modern Sri Lankan Short Stories in English, besides bridging Connections: An Anthology of Sri Lankan Short Stories, published by National Book Trust, India (NBT).
