Afghanistan has finished in fourth position after beating Sri Lanka by five wickets at the seventh play off for the U19 World Cup held at ICC Academy Ground 2 in Dubai today.

This marks Afghanistan’s second major win in the tournament, after it shocked Australia by 36 runs. The team also fought hard in a narrow loss to the West Indies by nine runs.

“Usman Ghani took three for 21 and Sayed Shirzad bagged three for 33 as Sri Lanka was bowled out for 114 in 34.3 overs. In turn, Afghanistan raced to victory in under 22 overs for the loss of five wickets with Ihsanullah scoring 37 not out,” according to an update from the ICC.
