One of the mots glamourous, senior and veteran actress in the Sinhala Film Industry, Leena de Silva celebrated her 85th Birthday with her family and close friends on recently.
Celebrations were held at J&J Swarget Banquet Hall in Markham, Toronto.
Leena entered the party hall escorted by her three grand-sons. Two pretty young girls danced in front of her to the tune of the most popular song of her first film ‘Surathale’, which was produced in 1956.
The music was provided by Nimal Samaranayake. Leena’s well- liked song from the film Kelahanda’, ‘Parama Ramani……”, ( Ruckmani Devi and Mohideen Beg) the duet sung by Nimal Samaranayake with Anuradha Perera (late Shelton Perera’s daughter). Few clips of the films Leena acted were also displayed paying the tribute to late Tissa Nagodavithane, for preserving the clips.
The clip of ‘Suneetha’ she played opposite her late husband, Ravindra Rupasena brought back the wonderful memories of the past. I had the opportunity of visiting Leena after she turned 80 in early 2017 with my friend Bobby Siva.
