The Canadian Tamil Medical Association (CTMA) recently raised funds for Tellippalai Base Hospital, the second largest hospital in Jaffna district in Northern Sri Lanka.
In the first phase of their support, the CTMA donated vital medical equipment to the hospital.
“The Jaffna society is highly satisfied with the efforts of CTMA,” Dr. Y. Thivakar, Medical Supervisor for the for Tellippalai Base Hospital said in message sent to CTMA on its annual fundraising gala, Lights of Healing 2017 held recently in Toronto.

Part of funds from the 2017 gala will go towards to the hospital, Dr. Bahe Rajendran, Chairman of CTMA said in his message.
The CTMA contributed to multiple projects, including the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, funding for the expansion of the South Asian Autism Centre in Scarborough, the Markham Stoufville hospital expansion project, the Mental Health unit in Mannar, Sri Lanka, and a school dental care program in Sri Lanka, among other projects.

FOUNDED IN 1998
Canadian Tamil Medical Association (CTMA), previously known as CMDDA is a Canadian registered charity of physicians, dentists and other regulated health care professionals, scientists and scholars of Tamil decent in North America. This volunteer organization was founded in 1998. In the past years, our association has embarked on several medical, dental projects and humanitarian support to the communities affected by natural disaster and civil disturbances in Sri Lanka.
Their teams of physicians, dentists and nurses have visited Sri Lanka on medical relief missions in 2003 and 2004. Two more medical teams were sent in early 2005 for the Tsunami affected Eastern region of Sri Lanka.
The organization has funded several major and minor health care projects in Toronto and greater Toronto area. CTMA is committed to improving health care education by yearly health forums and community wellness programs.
