Amal Ratnayake, the first North American to be elected Chartered Institute of Management Accountants CIMA Global VP was recognized in Toronto. Elected recently, Ratnayake is only the second member of Sri Lankan heritage to hold this prestigious position of CIMA in its 98-year history.
He is now in line for the CIMA presidency in 2019.
Ratnayake was recognized for his achievements in the presence of CIMA President David Stanford, Sri Lanka Consul General U.L.M Jauhar, British Consul General Kevin McGurgan at the Toronto Marriot Bloor Yorkville Hotel.
It was also mentioned CIMA’s success in Sri Lanka was due to Amal’s father Upali Ratnayake a visionary who has been the CEO of CIMA Sri Lanka for over two decades and retired about ten years ago.
Ratnayake joined the CIMA canada board in 2004 and has been in front and centre of every single major initiative of the branch.
CIMA UK was formed in 1919 – Amal becomes the President of this prestigious UK institution in its centenary year.
His appointment comes at a crucial point for CIMA in North America. CIMA and AICPA Association was just formed and we need visionary leaders to ensure the profession continues to thrive and navigate in a very challenging environment.
While CIMA has an active presence in over 179 countries worldwide, Sri Lanka has the largest number of CIMA accountants anywhere in the world, outside of UK.
