Sarath Kumarasinghe is one of the foremost classical Esraj players in North America received a special honour from the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) presented by Elizabeth Dowdeswell Lieutenant Governor of Ontario at Queen’s Park Legislature last week.

He started playing the Esraj when he was of 12 years old while in studying at Thurstan College, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Sarath traveled to the Bhatkande College of Music, Lucknow, India and nurtured his skills in classical vocal and instrumental music.
While in Sri Lanka Sarath participated in numerous recordings and performed on radio, television stage and in movies on classical and light music.
in 2000, Sarath launched the first ever Esraj instrumental CD in Sri Lanka. To-date he has released 4 Esraj instrumental CDs in Canada and Sri Lanka and online.
He held his first full length solo Esraj Instrumental Concert “Sonduru Sathsara” in 2004 and one more in 2006. Sarath held “Sonduru Sathsara” twice in Sri Lanka, once at the prestigious B.M.I.C.H. concert hall and at the Bishops College Auditorium.

Sarath held his latest full length concert in Mississauga in March 2016.
He performs concerts in Canada and U.S.A frequently.
Sarath Kumaraasinghe is also a renowned music tutor in the GTA. In addition to the students who receive tutoring from him at his school in Mississauga, Sarath tutors students in the U.S. online via Skype.
Sarath is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and hold the Certified Public Accountant designation from U.S.A. and Certified Professional Accountant in Ontario.
He also holds the M.B.A. degree from the University of Colombo and is a Certified Data Analyst.
Sarath works in Toronto as a Senior Audit Manager in a leading bank in Canada. In his spare time, he actively supports charity work in Mississauga.
Sarath migrated to Canada in 2001 and lives in Mississauga, Ontario with his wife Champa, son Kushal and daughter Sarin.
