Toronto’s Aga Khan Park will host the Pan Am flame as part of Reflections — Celebrating our Cultures and Communities, a community event on July 5, 2015. This event will mark the commencement of programming in the Park, which was inaugurated by Premier Kathleen Wynne and His Highness the Aga Khan on May 25, 2015.
Reflections will present sights, sounds and tastes inspired by the Silk Road, a network of trade routes which connected India and China to the Mediterranean Sea. For centuries the Silk Road enabled economic trade as well as cultural interaction between the Eastern and Western worlds, playing a vital role in the development of the civilizations along its routes.
Reflections will feature children’s activities including lantern-making, a wellness zone with guided yoga instruction, and various dance, poetry, and music performances inspired by the Silk Road and performed by local Toronto artists. The Park will also host a souk bazaar highlighting culture from the region. There is no entry fee to the Aga Khan Park for this event, and most activities — including mainstage performances — are free.
