A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER

On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am delighted to extend warm greetings to Tamil Canadians in Ontario on the occasion of Thai Pongal.

To its great advantage, Ontario is a microcosm of world culture. This means that all our citizens have the opportunity to learn more about the customs and traditions of the many communities which make up our great province. The Tamil festival of Thai Pongal is a reminder of the spiritual and cultural richness of Tamils around the world — a richness that Tamil Canadians brought with them to Ontario. We are grateful to the Tamil Canadian community for its important contributions to the life of our province.

I wish to acknowledge the great significance of Thai Pongal to Tamil Canadians, a festival which is at once many things: a time of renewal and fresh beginnings, an occasion that brings together family and friends in a spirit of thanksgiving — and an event that bonds the community in shared pride of a long-standing tradition.

I am very pleased to wish our province’s Tamil Canadian community a joyous Thai Pongal — and much success, prosperity and happiness in the coming year.

Kathleen Wynne
