Etihad Airways captain Rajiv Veerasuntharam will have a homecoming of sorts when he lands an Airbus A330 aircraft at Colombo airport Saturday morning. It was the first time the Abu Dhabi based airline was using the wide-body aircraft on this route to increase capacity.

Veerasuntharam’s father in Toronto says he is proud of his son, an engineer who became a pilot in 1992. In 2007, he flew a custom built ultra modern Etihad A340-500 on its first trip to Toronto, the landing path included a flyover his childhood home in Rexdale, Ontario. Rajiv’s brother Vasant who is the CEO of Suvara Travels Canada Inc. in Toronto was also tracking details of the flight.
