Gunasekera stars as Canada beat Ireland in ODI

Ruvindu Gunasekera hit 71 runs to help Canada secure victory against Ireland in the first one day international played in Toronto on Labour Day.

 In the shortened match Ireland made 175 for 9 in their 35 overs and set Canada target of 159 in 33 overs under the D/L method. The Lankan-born 19 year-old batsman shared a 140 run partnership with his skipper Ashish Bagai (64).  Canada won by six wickets at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club.

 Gunasekera was awarded Man of the Match for his 71 runs, which included six boundaries. Both Ireland and Canada have qualified for the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
